Solid hardwood flooring has long been the standard in wood flooring. It has a very large variety of species, widths, and colours. Solid hardwood is, however, a dimensional piece of lumber and more prone to seasonal gaps and overall board movement. Solid wooden flooring is restricted to use only for above-grade applications as natural moisture levels below grade level like in bathrooms and basements could damage the wood and result in the floor not performing as intended. For wide plank flooring, it is also more prone to gaps than its engineered wood counterpart.
